Brilliant and intense, Michelle Winter's paintings are a beautiful combination of atmosphere and texture. Fiery reds, rich violets, sapphire blues and exquisite turquoises dazzle the viewer and are applied to canvas with bold sweeping strokes. She celebrates colour. Not an artist to be riddled with angst and depression, Michelle "...wants people's connection with my work to be an uplifting experience".
Rejecting a place at a premier Sydney Art School in favour of extended travel is not the auspicious start most would expect from a successful artist, but it has proved to be the right path for Michelle. After completing a degree in Film Production and Television Direction, she then went on to work in London for ELLE magazine and for a successful Futures Trading company. It was only after she returned to Australia in that she realized that painting was still very much her first passion.
Since that time things have progressed rapidly resulting in a very successful exhibition in 2008 at an internationally recognised Australian gallery. As an artist who splits her time between Sydney, London and Noosa, her paintings now hang in collections in Europe as well as Australia.
Michelle's current work are her own interpretation of the brilliance of the natural surroundings of Australia. "I've always been intrigued by the effect that colours have on us both consciously and unconsciously. It is well know that different colours can alter our psychological state". For example, the gorgeous blues, turquoises and violets that are to be seen in some of Michelle's work are known for their calming and soothing effect, whereas the hot chilli reds stimulate passion.
Her paintings have a contemporary expressive stylized quality about them and the perceived depth of her rich and vibrant pieces almost suggest another dimension. Fresh and original, Michelle Winter's natural ability gives her paintings a distinctive and recognizable style and there is no doubt that she is an exciting talent.
